A Brief View on Onshore and Offshore Hydrocarbon Exploration and Production: Supply and Demand Challenges Ahead

This presentation enables for a succinct view on the present state of affairs of worldwide hydrocarbon exploration and production. It briefly reviews the proven and probable reserves available to market, the geographical environment location of the major oil and gas fields and briefly describes the evolution of seismic and drilling technology investigations of salt basins and of basins without salt. Further it provides for a comparative assessment of the investment infrastructure cost of onshore versus offshore field developments, their historical dependence on oil pricing, the role of deepwater and of un-conventionals and the supply-demand challenges ahead.

Looking for Hydrocarbons in Portugal - the knowledge and vision of Universities

Decades of geologists and geophysicists have researched on the sedimentary basins and its stratigraphic infill. Research included aspects like Sedimentary Geology, Stratigraphy, Structural Geology, Tectonics, etc., most of it with no direct focus on Petroleum Systems.

Most of this knowledge has been used for Oil & Gas Exploration since the 50’s and particularly the 1970’s - 2000’s. There is an important volume of academic knowledge and publications (Thesis, Papers, Reports), which is crucial to approach the Portuguese Petroleum Basins.

Analysis of the education on petroleum and discussion of an educational project targeted at the Portuguese Language community

A description of three successful experiences between Academia and the Petroleum Industry: Brasil (Petrobras, Bahia and Unicamp universities), Germany (Wave Inversion Technology (WIT)) and Norway (Statoil and UniGeo).
Based on these experiences and the actual state, will be presented an educational project on petroleum targeted at the Portuguese Language community.

The ISPG MSc in Petroleum Engineering

The ISPG – Institute of Oil and Gas, an Association for Research and Advanced Training, is a non-profit association, the result of a partnership between Galp Energia and the six major Portuguese universities, being open to other institutions of the Portuguese-speaking world, and has the following main purposes: to develop research and advanced training projects and differentiating competencies in the Oil and Gas sector; and to  contribute to the consolidation and development of knowledge and technology in Portuguese-speaking countries, which are applicable to the Oil and Gas sector and able to compete within the global economy. ISPG activity aims to create value for its members through the development of technology programs and projects focused on the challenges posed by the exploration and production of oil and gas, especially in operations developed by Galp Energia.

Data Science in Oil and Gas

What is the current status of data science in the oil and gas extraction industry? Which data mining problems are relevant and how can they be applied to this activity? What data is important? Which techniques can be used and what can we expect from the future? In this talk we will briefly approach these issues and launch discussion with experts in the field of oil and gas.
